The Harp and Hound: Bar and Grill

Looking for good food? Can't find a decent vegan restaurant?

I ate at The Harp and Hound at 2550 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT. We were looking for a good vegan restaurant that also served burger and fries. It got excellent reviews online, so I thought we'd try it.

I ordered a Vegan '47 Rodeo Burger with tater tots and a side order of vegan avocado rolls that are deep fried in wonton wrappers. Everything tasted fresh instead of greasy. The moment I bit into the brioche bun, an explosion of flavor washed over my tongue. Salty mixed with creamy vegan mayo, soft vegan bacon, crisp Beyond meat patty, and finally the fried onions on the bottom. I practically inhaled it because I haven't had a tasty REAL burger since I became vegan last summer. Not to mention finding good food that isn't greasy is a rarity, like a unicorn, but tastier.

The avocado rolls were a surprise as well. Usually anything that is deep fried is dripping with oil or trans fat that it's practically disgusting. But not these. I bit into one and the familiar gooey flavor of vegan cheese mixed with ripe avocado slices crunched as my teeth passed through it. They were piping hot, and it didn't take long for them to arrive at our table. They were served with fruity berry jalapeno sauce and vegan ranch. Oh, my gosh! It was pure heaven. They didn't skimp on the serving size either. Each order came with six rolls.

Service: they greeted us with friendly smiles and warm hospitality that immediately made us want to stay. Our server couldn't have been nicer. He got us sat down pronto and shortly after ordering, our food arrived. The only downside is that you have to show ID before entering because it IS a bar and grill. The building itself is over a century old. It used to be a courthouse, but where we were was used as a speakeasy back in the bootlegging day of the prohibition that lasted from 1920 to 1933. It was awesome to be in such a historical place! And to get to the Harp and Hound you gotta use the tunnels, but they don't look like tunnels. They're more like brick hallways.

This place is worth the money. Stop in and eat at Harp and Hound only in Ogden, Utah.
