A Whole New World
What if Aladdin had never found the lamp?
I am in love with these twisted tales by Disney Hyperion. Apparently, this was the first one in the series. I loved every bit except when it jarred me out of the story with "telling" instead of "showing".
It really bugged me when Liz said, "Jasmine was sad." And I felt it was a good place to show us how she was sad, like tears falling or something. It was a frustrating read.
The storyline, however, was very original, and I applauded the use of Aladdin's father's name from "Aladdin King of Thieves", a direct-to-video sequel of "Jafar's Return". It was a nice little Easter egg for fans of all three movies. Liz made me fall in love with my favorite Disney princess all over again, something that has happened twice.
The first time was when I saw Aladdin as a child. The second time was when Disney released the live-action version and Naomi Scott sang "Speechless". Despite my opinions, this is worth a read. Four out of five stars.
