Daughter of Thieves by Lichelle Slater

Caspara, daughter of the thief Kasim, loves being one of the Forty Thieves. She steals from the rich and gives to the poor. When the job of snatching a golden serpent goes awry, Caspara is confronted by the grand sorceress, Roshanak, who makes a deal. To free her father from prison, Caspara must venture into a cave and retrieve a hidden lamp. Easier said than done right? The cave happens to be part of the Desert Trials, challenges designed for sorceresses to enter Zauberin's Academy. Except, Caspara doesn't have magic. Only her wits and skills as a thief.

I love these gender-flipped stories! Especially since this one was based on my fav Disney Princess. The retelling of Aladdin and the Forty Thieves. The beginning had me captivated. I loved that Caspara was the Street Rat instead of Abudar. She was easy to relate to and I could see myself in her. Also, her nickname for the prince was a throwback to Aladdin's pet monkey Abu. The little easter eggs in the story had me turning page after page. I could not put this book down. While there could be some improvement in grammar, the flow, pacing, world-building, and character development were well thought out. I can't wait to read book two!

For my Christian readers, this book has no swear words or graphic violence. I would rate it PG for some peril.
