Frigid: Frost Boarding House by Joanna Reeder
Camilla is a seventeen-year-old living in the 1800s in Vancouver, Washington. When her parents board Aline Dracul, Romanian royalty, and her protector Evandrus Quinn, Camilla suspects they are much more than they seem. It is soon revealed that they are changers (shapeshifters). Holding prejudice against them for being monsters from fairy stories, Camilla soon learns to abandon her hatred and instead try to understand them as people. Chaos soon comes into her life when a female vampire is seen near her home. She holds tight to her beliefs that all changers are evil until her adopted brother Leif is turned. Now, she must war inside herself and ask a deep question: "Will I hold on to my ill-conceived beliefs or turn to love changers as a people?"

I honestly loved this book! I hope it will be made into a movie. The themes resonated with me. How true it is that we must learn to abandon our hatred for our fellow humans and learn to love them without any requirements.
However, there were a lot of grammatical and spelling errors that jarred me out of the story. I would have loved to see Vancouver's landscapes, but that was not described. If the five senses had been implemented, I would have been able to picture Camilla's surroundings better even if it's her room.
I kept asking myself: "What does a young woman's room in the 1800's look like? Did she own cameos or jewelry? What does Vancouver, Washington look like? What time is it? Evening? Night? Day? What color is the sun? A pearly sheen behind clouds? Bright and yellow? What about the twilight? What hues were cast into the sky? Purple? Blue? A mixture?" Just a few simple things can make all the difference to a reader.
The storyline was good. I got a bit confused though when Camilla thought back to important events that should have unfolded in the present time. The whole book felt...undeveloped as if it was still in the editing process. It did not feel complete. The ending was good! I loved it! However, I do wish it had ended with Camilla discovering an icy power within her.
