Part of Your World: A Twisted Tale
Updated: Aug 2, 2022
I cannot fathom how much I love these books. I first read As Old As Time last year, which was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast but Disney's version. And I fell in love with them. Anywho in this one it's about Ariel and what if she never defeated Ursula? I think it should be rewritten to: What if Ariel had never stopped Prince Eric's wedding?
It takes place five years after Eric marries Vanessa. King Triton is cursed to be that creepy creature. And Ariel is the queen of the ocean. However, I have a few... well, criticisms. It kind of makes little sense that all of Ariel's sisters elected her to be queen because they blame her what happened to their father. I mean, all of them hold a grudge? Even the eldest? And why doesn't Attina want to be queen?
I get that it's a responsibility and none of the sisters want to do that but Attina? Who has probably had decades to prepare? It just seems forced rather than organic. Also, there was a chapter titled Sebastian, but it wasn't really from his point of view. It was in Ariel's. So, yeah, that confused me. I do like Liz Braswell's style of writing, though. She also wrote As Old as Time.
I can always imagine Ariel's voice, even though she doesn't have one in this book. I blame Disney. Lol. XD. I loved how the author drew inspiration from the original story by Hans Christen Anderson, one of my fav writers! Her description of how Ariel felt her feet walking on iron glass made me cringe so much that I could feel it in my soles.
There were a few chapters that were one page, and I could tell they were fillers. So, a novel has to be a certain amount of words to be considered a novel it's called word count. But I felt we could have done without the fillers. Especially the very last chapter. It should have ended with Eric and Ariel, not Vareet. This book felt forced. And it wasn't as good as As Old as Time. I still enjoyed it though.
Four out of five stars.
Nice review. Lisa Braswell will be thrilled!
