Unearth the Tides
Huxley Gannon the Third is a soldier for the kingdom of Braka and Prince Clark's protector. When the king accuses Huxley of murdering Prince Clark, Huxley is forced to flee to the nearby kingdom Kethnar with his best friend. However, the sea divides the two kingdoms and the Wasteful Tides, a mysterious whirlpool that claims lives, is their biggest worry. The Crimson Death, a larger-than-life cuttlefish, sweeps them up. Huxley finds himself inside a submarine called the Neptucadis with a captain who seems intent on holding them prisoners.
I loved that this was a retelling of Jules Vern’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I have tried reading some of his work before and was lost and jerked out of the story with the footnotes. So, I prefer Alissa’s retelling. Lol. It’s easier to follow. Her descriptions were great. She utilized all five of the senses, pulling me deeper into the story. Her book did not let me go from the first chapter to the last.
I love how she included God in her work, which gave the reader a sense of purpose to keep reading and had some very comforting words to say. Character development was very well fleshed out. There was no spice and mild swearing. The pacing was amazing. I kept wanting to turn every page and keep reading to the end.
