"Abyss"

A Netflix Korean fantasy/crime drama, Abyss had me hooked from the first moment we see Cha Min on the ledge. It was different, entertaining, humorous at times, suspenseful, and kept the audience wanting more.

This was my first Korean show and it amazed me how different their culture is compared to Americans. They are more respectful, honest, and say gosh instead of the common God that riddles the majority of American shows.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Cha Min and Go Se-yeon. It was funny at times because Min got a hot body and she got a common one. It felt like karma. 😂

The main plot is about a man named Cha Min who isn't attractive and tries to commit suicide when suddenly an alien spacecraft slams into him. He ends up dead. Regretting, killing a human, the aliens use an orb called Abyss that brings Cha Min back to life. But now he looks like a completely different person!

Go Se-yeon, one of the prosecutors on an old case, gets murdered while investigating. Cha Min, her long time friend, can't bear to see her dead so he uses Abyss to revive her. She, too, gets a different body.

Both team up to solve the Emosan-dong case. Things get tricky with the police suspicious, the murderer also revived, and both their lives in danger. It was thrilling, intense at times, and made me cry.

For fans of Japanese shows, Abyss is a must-see. It is rated TV-14 for strong language like the "s" word which surprisingly is used sparingly instead of complacently like in most American shows. Each episode is an hour-long and is better in Korean with English subtitles.
