"Queen of Katwe"

The movie begins in 2007 modern day where a girl named Phiona lives in a modest home with her mom, brother Brian, little brother Richard, and her sister Night in Katwe, Uganda

The movie is amazing! It made me sad when Phiona's peers said she smelled and nearly drove her away but she stood up for herself. I cried when her family was forced to the slums and had to live under an awning for a while.

Or even when her brother was struck down by a hit and run and she had to pay someone to take them to hospital. It made me sick inside to see little empathy from others. Something about her resonated with me.

At one point, she gave up and thought she would never be good enough. And that is something I have felt, my friends have felt, and can relate to anyone who goes through struggles and tribulations in life. I especially loved the part where Phiona beat a stuck up, rich boy who was sure she would lose because she was from the ghetto, at chess. She won first place and a gold medal. 😁 I cheered so loud.

Queen of Katwe is a movie everyone should see. Filled with humor, adversity, and the spirit of being a champion, it is a wonderful movie based on a true story.

Rated PG, there is no swearing.
