"The Turning"

The movie started off strong and made the viewer wanting more. It was a bit slow. I kept nagging it to move faster and get to the good parts. Lol!

I do like the Horror genre but not R movies if that makes sense. Anyway, the previews looked good so I took a chance on this one. I did like the fact the antagonist was a male ghost.

There is nothing more unsettling to a woman than a man she can't see. There was a lot of strong language throughout like "S" and one "F" which I personally didn't care for. Seriously, what's with Hollywood these days putting the "F" word into every movie??

The plot focuses on a woman named Kate Mendell who becomes the new governess to two children. Flora, the youngest, and her brother Miles. The kids really creeped me out by what they said and did to Kate. As the movie progresses, the viewer realizes the house is haunted.

I waited for the big climax and then...the ending confused me. Apparently, there were two endings, one in which the protagonist got away from the male ghost with the kids. The other ending really disappointed me.

The audience is then brought back in time. At first, I thought we just had a bad Bluray copy but as the movie went on, I realized the MC (Main Character) had a vision which was the first ending. I got even more confused when she asked the kids if they saw the ghost. They told her she was crazy. The movie ended with Kate in the mental hospital where her mom was and she screamed at her mom who the viewer didn't get to see. Then fades to black.

I literally had to look up the ending and why it was so weird. Apparently, the studio wanted to keep two endings from the book. The one where Kate and the kids got way and the other where it was all in Kate's head. Honestly, as a movie lover and storyteller, they should have stuck with one ending. If the audience gets confused, then the screenwriter didn't do a good job of conveying what they were trying to portray.

Overall, the pacing was good, a little slow in the beginning, the acting was phenomenal especially from Brooklynn Prince who played Flora, the special effects were uber creepy, and it had my heart racing. The main reason I even wanted to see it was because of Finn Wolf from Stranger Things. He's a dang good actor!

Don't judge the movie though based on my opinion. See it for yourself.
