Worldwide: Sleeping Beauty Part One
Everyone knows the story of Aurora thanks to Walt Disney. What most people don't know is that it's actually an Italian fairytale. And Aurora wasn't her name. It was Talia.
Crazy, huh?
Once upon a time, in Italy, there lived a lord who had a daughter named Talia. His astrologers predicted a splinter of flax would endanger her. Fearing for his daughter, the Lord decreed that no flax should ever be brought into the house. Years later, Talia saw an old woman spinning flax on a spindle.
She asks the woman if she can stretch the flax and bam! A splinter ends up under her fingernail.
And guess what? She ends up in a death-like sleep. Unable to bury his daughter, the lord places Talia in one of his country estates.
A hundred years later, a king who was out hunting, follows his falcon to the estate. He finds Talia on the bed. Now, this is where the story gets twisted. Entranced by her beauty, he has sex with her then leaves. How messed up is that? The jerk basically rapes a sleeping chick! Seriously! 😠
Anyway, the story continues with Talia giving birth to twins. A boy and a girl. I have no idea how that's possible when you're sleeping. The girl, couldn't find her uh, mom's breast so instead sucks on her finger pulling out the splinter.
Just when I thought the story couldn't get any weirder. Talia wakes up. Imagine her surprise to find two babies. She names them Sun and Moon and lives with them in the estate.
The king comes back, right? He finds Talia awake and two children with her. He assumes he's the father.
Back at his palace, he cries out Talia's name and the two children in his sleep. The queen, his wife, hears this. Now what happens next I really don't blame her. After all, this guy is a sex maniac and cheater.
She makes the secretary tell her everything and forges an invite for Talia and her children to come. She then orders the cook to well, bake the children, and serve them to the king. Pretty harsh. Yeah, her husband cheated on her but for reals? Cook the children?? That's just messed up.
Okay, maybe I do blame her.
But the cook actually hides the children and instead serves the king two lambs. Mmm🤤....mutton.
The queen meanwhile, taunts him throughout the dinner. She then tells him he ate his own children and Talia will be burned. Geez, talk about revenge.
Outraged, the king orders the secretary, queen, and cook to be burned. But the cook presents his children and is spared. He then marries Talia. The end.
However, that is not the end of my blog. Tune in next Friday for part two.
