Worldwide: Unicorns

When one thinks of Unicorns, one can't help but conjure up a horse with one spiraling horn in the center of its forehead in some fantasy novel set in the medieval or renaissance era.

However, the myth of Unicorns has been around for much longer. In ancient times, yes, I said ancient; there were these types of donkeys with a horn that lived primarily in India. Though Greek historians wrote about it, the creature itself was not worshipped in Greece.

There are even mentions of Unicorns in the Bible. They were described as a large ox with a horn. Scientists have discovered there indeed was a creature in ancient times called Bos primigenius that thrived in Syria but with two horns. The renderings were often of the side profile thus only showing one horn.

It's not really that far fetched if one thinks about it. After all, there are rhinos, unicorn spiders, Arabian oryx, okapi, and narwhals, which are referred to as the unicorns of the sea, they are real. And once upon a time so were Unicorns just not in the way we think.

Unicorns have often been associated with romance since the Medieval and Renaissance period. Magical horses that could heal people with the tip of their horns.

In conclusion, the myths may have begun in Asia but they have become world-renowned.
